Tusculum closes out regular season at home

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Tusculum University softball will round out the regular season by hosting a trio of South Atlantic Conference series. Anderson will come to town on Thursday (Apr. 15), while Newberry (Apr. 17) and UVA Wise (Apr. 18) enter Red Edmonds Field on back-to-back days.

Sunday's doubleheader against the Cavaliers will serve as Senior Day for five Pioneers: Anna Alloway, Brittney Franse, Kristen Gass, Alexis Grampp, and Delilah Malczewski.

RECAPPING THE WEEK
The Pioneers (16-14, 10-8 SAC) went 4-2 last week, made up of splits against both Wingate and Carson-Newman and a domination of Queens.

Alloway notched 13 hits with a .542 batting average, including a pair of doubles and home runs, alongside seven RBI and six runs scored. Emily Sappington also reached double-digit hits with 11. She racked up three doubles, three runs scored, nine RBI, and her first collegiate homer. Hayley Lazo had a career day against Queens. She launched her first three collegiate home runs as her three hits in game one and drove in five runs. Grampp also hit a trio of homers during the week, while Kiley Longmire collected three doubles and drew four walks.

Sappington did the majority of the pitching for the Pioneers, tossing 22.0 innings for a 2-1 record and one save. She struck out 19, allowing 10 earned runs, 18 hits, and three walks. Keylon Reynolds threw 11.2 innings in four appearances, striking out seven. Savannah Foster made her return and pitched four innings in the Queens series, picking up the game two win. She was near lights-out by relenting just two hits, one walk, and one earned run with nine strikeouts.

As a team, Tusculum is ranked across the top-25 in four NCAA statistical categories: sacrifice bunts (1st; 39) double plays (3rd; 15), double plays per game (9th; 0.50), and hit by pitch (21st; 27). Individually, Alloway is seventh in hits (45), Grampp is 19th with nine home runs, and Longmire is 25th with 10 doubles. Sappington ranks 17th with her two saves and 20th in complete games (11).
