Pioneers to compete in ITA Southeast Championship this weekend

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Members of the Tusculum University men's tennis team will compete at the ITA Division II Southeast Regional Championship, to be held this weekend at the Palmetto Tennis Center in Sumter, South Carolina.

Competing in singles for the Pioneers will be juniors Yuki Ikeda and Miles Ray, sophomore Will Gee and freshmen Rens Verhaar and Anton Krondell. In doubles, the Pioneers have entered senior Nemanja Subanovic and junior Marco Jalalian as a team, along with Gee and Ray.

All five of the Pioneers entered in singles will be competing in the ITA regional for the first time in their careers. Gee, Krondell and Verhaar all went 2-0 in action at the Lincoln Memorial Invitational last weekend, while Ikeda was 1-1 and Ray went 0-1.

In doubles, Subanovic and Jalalian are seeded fourth and received a first-round bye. They were selected first-team All-South Atlantic Conference last season after going 13-8 overall and 8-2 in conference play in 2023. Gee and Ray had a 2-2 record in last weekend's competition and will begin doubles play Friday morning.

The first two rounds of singles will be contested on Friday starting at 10 a.m., with the round of 32 scheduled for Saturday afternoon. The round of 16 and quarterfinals will be played Sunday afternoon, with the semifinals on Monday morning and the finals Monday afternoon. A consolation bracket for players who lose their opening match will be held Saturday.
