Pioneer women place 11th at App State

BOONE, N.C. --- The Tusculum University women's cross country team finished 11th out of 14 teams at the Covered Bridge Open, hosted Friday morning by Appalachian State University.

The Pioneers finished second among the five Division II teams in the field, led by senior Emily Coddington who just missed a career-best time in the 5-kilometer race as she placed 35th overall in 18:37.48. Coddington was the top finisher among non-Division I runners, by a margin of 27 seconds over 45th overall finisher Campbell Dille of Lees-McRae.

Sophomore Inmaculada Delgado was 60th overall and did set a career best with a time of 19:40.62. Also for the Pioneers, senior Judy Chellah was 114th overall in 26:15.19, sophomore Victoria Caliendo placed 116th at 33:38.07 and junior Silvia Bah took 117th place in 33:53.10.

Alyson Churchill of Florida State was the race winner with a time of 16:08.30, winning by 40 seconds over runner-up Brooke Wilson of Wake Forest. In the team standings, Wake Forest had five runners in the top 10 and won with 23 points, followed by Florida State (36) and Radford (79) in third.

The Pioneers will return to action with the men on Saturday, Sept. 30 in the Akiah McMillan Invitational in West Columbia, South Carolina.
