Pioneers set to compete at SAC Championship on Saturday

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- The Tusculum University men's and women's cross country teams will compete at the South Atlantic Conference Championship Saturday morning at McAlpine Creek Park in Charlotte, North Carolina.

The SAC has not hosted a cross country championship race since 2019, when the Tusculum men and women each finished sixth overall out of 12 teams. A total of 13 teams will be competing in both the men's and women's championship races, with the men's 8-kilometer run starting at 9 a.m. and the women's 6-kilometer event underway at 10:30 a.m.

Both Tusculum teams are quite familiar with the McAlpine Creek Park course, having competed in both the Queen City Invite on Sept. 24 and the Royals Challenge on Oct. 8. Tusculum's men finished sixth and the women 13th in fields of more than 30 teams at Queen City.

"The men are healthy, which is always critical entering championship season," said Pioneer head coach Cory Pratt. "This is a deep group of 10, so I'm confident enough of them are going to be feeling right Saturday morning to do something special. This women's team has been a treat to coach. They've consistently raced better each week. I'm expecting a tight pack with a small spread Saturday."

Regardless of finish at the conference meet, all teams will have the chance to participate in the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional at Spartanburg, S.C. on Saturday, Nov. 6.
