NEW ORLEANS --- Tusculum cross country runner Alissa Furches has been named to the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association NCAA Division II All-Academic Team.
USTFCCCA All-Academic honors are awarded to those student-athletes who have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 or higher and finished among the top-30 percent of eligible runners at the NCAA II Regional Championship and/or the top half of the field at the NCAA National Championship.
Furches, a junior from Greeneville, Tennessee, has a 3.37 GPA while majoring in elementary education. She finished in 46th place at the Southeast Regional championships with a 6K time of 24:28.33. She logged a 20th place finish at the South Atlantic Conference Championship and earned All-SAC honorable mention laurels with her 5K time of 19:30.42.
The Tusculum men's cross country team also garnered USTFCCCA All-Academic Team recognition. To qualify, teams must have compiled a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher and must have scored at an NCAA II regional meet. The Pioneer men finished 17th at the NCAA Regional and boast a team GPA of 3.069.
