Tusculum women 9th, men 11th at SAC Championships

COLUMBIA, S.C. --- The Tusculum College men's and women's cross country teams competed at the South Atlantic Conference Championships Saturday morning at the Clemson Sandhill Research & Education Center. The Pioneer women finished ninth out of 12 teams with 240 points while the men placed 11th out of 12 teams with 277 points.

WOMEN'S RESULTS
Freshman Emily Stoklosa finished 36th in a time of 20:43.8 over five kilometers to lead the Pioneers. Sophomore Makenzi Alley finished 54th with a time of 21:41.7; with sophomore Mackenzie Newsome placing 59th in 21:55.0. Senior Pauline Muiruri was the Pioneers' fourth finisher as she was 61st overall in 21:56.9, with fellow senior Ashley Andrukonis rounding out the top five as she placed 65th overall in 22:07.5.

Also competing for the Pioneers were sophomore Deondra Thomas, who was 72nd in 22:43.7, freshman Brooklyn Smith, who was 74th overall in 22:47.0, sophomore Lillian Wallace who was 84th in 25:52.6, and freshman Emma Hicks who claimed 85th place in a time of 26:52.8.

Queens University of Charlotte had the top four finishers, including race winner Corinne Kule, and had 21 points as a team to win the championship over Wingate (47 points), Anderson (77), Catawba (127) and Carson-Newman (181).

MEN"S RESULTS
Junior Jacob Cutshall was the Pioneers' top finisher as he crossed the line in 42nd place with a time of 28:44.0. Sophomore J'Quen Johnson was 47th in a time of 29:00.2, Freshman Tommy Veerkamp was Tusculum's top rookie finisher as he came across the line 50th in a time of 29:03.3.

Freshman Matthew Mayes finished 69th as he covered the 8-kilometer course in a time of 30:01.5, and sophomore Will Noel was the Pioneers' fifth scorer as he was clocked in 32:02.4 for an 89th place finish. Also competing for the Pioneers were senior Cory Ramsey, who was 93rd overall in 32:42.3, freshman Jeremy Focatero, who was 95th in 33:57.3, and sophomore Jesse Harrell who took 99th place in a time of 40:19.1.

Mars Hill had four runners in the top seven and all five of its scorers in the top 11 to win the team championship with 30 points. Queens (60), Anderson (100), Lincoln Memorial (121) and Wingate (125) rounded out the top five. Nathan Jones of Mars Hill was the individual champion as he crossed the line in 25:54.8 to earn medalist honors by 26 seconds.
