Cross Country earns second and third place finishes at Hagan Stone Classic
KERNERSVILLE, N.C. --- The Tusculum college women's cross country team finished in second place in the Division II division of the Hagan Stone Cross Country Classic on Saturday morning. The Pioneer men claimed a third place finish.

The event was moved to Redmon Park in Kernersville, North Carolina from the Hagan Stone Course in Greensboro, North Carolina due to inclement weather. Pauline Muiruri and Caleb Cutshall led the Tusculum squads with third place finishes in their respective races.

Muiruri posted a season-best time of 21:59.67 on the 5,000-meter course to earn her best finish of the season. Mackenzie Newsome claimed a sixth place finish with a time of 22:38.11 while Paige Bible was a few steps back in seventh, running a 23:15.67.

Ashley Andrukonis crossed the line 11th (24:37.69) and Deondra Thomas was TC's final scorer in 12th (24:38.48). Lillian Wallace also competed for Tusculum and completed the course in 26:39.42 to finish 19th. Sierra Hanson made her Pioneer debut and finished 21st with a time of 28:35.04.

On the men's side, Caleb Cutshall posted a time of 28:38.80 for his career-best 8,000-meter finish and his third top-10 effort of the season. Jacob Cutshall tied for sixth after crossing the line in 28:43.80 and Lawson Burrow posted a season-best time of 29:07.20 for an 8th-place effort.

Will Noel and J'Quen Johnson each earned their best finishes of their young Pioneer careers as TC's fourth and fifth runners. Noel claimed a 15th-place finish with a time of 32:37.10 and Johnson posted a time of 32:45.50 to finish 17th.

The Pioneers will return to the course next Friday night at the Royals Cross Country Challenge in Charlotte, North Carolina.
