SALISBURY, N.C. --- Tusculum senior harrier
David Cooper posted an eighth place finish at the 2014 South
Atlantic Conference Men's Cross Country Championship to earn
All-SAC Second Team honors for the second consecutive season.
Sophomore Samantha Vogt led the TC women with a 25th place
finish.
Both races were held at the Salisbury Community Park in
Salisbury, North Carolina. The Tusculum men finished eighth in the
team standings while the Pioneer women came home 11th.
Cooper recorded a time of 26:26.38 on the 8,000-meter course
to earn his fifth top-10 finish of the season. Junior Lawson Burrow
was the Pioneers second finisher with a time of 28:02.39 while
crossing the line 38th. Freshman Jacob Cutshall was just a few
steps behind in 42nd with a time of 28:41.68 in his first career
SAC Championship.
Also competing in his first postseason event for the Pioneers,
junior Erick Koskey posted a time of 29:03.17 for a 52nd place
finish. Tusculum's fifth scorer was senior Zachary Simpson who
crossed the line in 57th with a time of 29:19.43 in his final SAC
Championship as a Pioneer.
Sophomore Corey Ramsey and freshman Gray Deanda also competed
for the Pioneers. Ramsey recorded a time of 30:42.99 to finish 73rd
and Deanda came home 77th with a time of 31:53.53.
On the women's side, Vogt posted a time of 20:01.56 on the
5,000-meter course and narrowly missed earning all-conference
honors. Junior Paige Bible was the Pioneers second finisher with a
time of 22:05.89 for a 65th place finish.
Senior Ashley Gregg ran in her final SAC Championship for TC
and recorded a time of 23:28.19 to come home 81st as Tusculum's
third finisher. Junior Allison Hall and freshman Sabrina Bradley
rounded out the Pioneer's harriers in the women's event. Hall
posted a time of 24:48.37 while Bradley ran a season-best 25:22.71
in her first career postseason event.
Mars Hill University won its 18th-straight men's championship.
Queen's University was the runner-up followed by Wingate University
in third. Queen's Felix Duchampt was the individual champion and
was named SAC Men's Runner of the Year.
Wingate claimed its second-straight women's title. Queen's was
also second in that event followed by Anderson University in third.
Queen's Megan Wright was the women's individual champion and earned
women's runner of the year honors.
A select number of TC's runners will be competing at the NCAA
II Southeast Regional on Saturday, Nov. 22 in Montevallo, Alabama.
