NEWTON, N.C. --- Senior David Cooper recorded
a fourth place finish to lead the Tusculum College men's cross
country team to a second place finish at the Lenoir-Rhyne
Invitational on Saturday morning. Sophomore Samantha Vogt led the
Pioneer women with a 16th place finish.
The races were run at Southside Park in Newton, North
Carolina. Cooper ran the 8,000-meter course in 27:00.21 to claim
his third top-five finish of the season. Vogt posted a time of
20:14.43 on the 5,000-meter course for her third-fastest time of
the season. Overall the TC women finished in seventh place.
Junior Lawson Burrow was the men's second finisher with a time
of 28:30.93 to earn an 18th place finish. Senior Zachary Simpson
crossed the line in 25th to become TC's third scorer with a time of
28:54.66. Freshman Jacob Cutshall ran a 29:09.41 to claim a 27th
place finish as the Pioneers fourth scorer, while junior Erick
Koskey was the final Tusculum scorer with a time of 30:03.28 for a
37th place effort.
Other Pioneer runners to compete were sophomore Cory Ramsey
who posted a time of 30:27.01 to earn 40th place and freshman Gray
Deanda who came home 44th with a time of 31:45.44.
On the women's side, sophomore Paige Bible crossed the line in
40th as the Pioneers second scorer with a time of 22:41.71. Junior
Ashley Gregg posted a time of 23:48.82 to earn 46th place and
become TC's third scorer, while senior Amy Morford made her TC
cross country debut and ran a 23:48.82 that scored her as the
Pioneers' fourth finisher and 49th overall.
Tusculum's final scorer was sophomore Allison Hall who came
home 57th with a time of 25:24.20. Freshman Sabrina Bradley also
made her season debut and posted a time of 25:53.95.
Both Pioneer squads will be back in action in two weeks (Nov.
8) at the South Atlantic Conference championships in Salisbury,
North Carolina.
