2014 Tusculum cross country schedule announced

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- The Tusculum College cross country team will compete in five regular season meets, culminating with the South Atlantic Conference Championship in November, as the 2014 schedule was announced on Tuesday. (2014 Schedule)

Second-year head coach Cory Pratt returns some talented letter-winners from a year ago, including three-time All-Region standout David Cooper on the men's team and rising sophomore Samantha Vogt on the women's squad.

The Pioneers open the season on Sep. 5 with the Catawba Invitational. TC will get a preview of the Salisbury (N.C.) Community Park layout, which will be the host venue for the SAC Championship later this fall.

Tusculum returns to Black Mountain, North Carolina for the Hyder-McMahill Invitational on Sep. 13. The Montreat College course served as the site of last year's SAC Championship.

The Pioneers will be at the 13th annual Greater Louisville Classic on Oct. 4. The E.P. Tom Sawyer State Park, located in Louisville, Kentucky, will host the 2014 NCAA Division II National Championship in December.

On Oct. 11, Tusculum will be at the Royals Challenge in Charlotte, North Carolina. The meet, hosted by Queens University of Charlotte, will be held at McAlpine Park, the competition site of last year's NCAA II Southeast Regional.

Tusculum will wrap up the regular season on Oct. 25 at the Lenoir-Rhyne Invitational in Newton, North Carolina. Last year's L-R meet at Southside Park was cancelled due to wet course conditions.

The 2014 SAC Championship will be held at the Salisbury Community Park on Nov. 8 for the first time since 2007 as the TC men and women both finished seventh at the league meet that season.

The NCAA II Southeast Region Championship will be held in Montevallo, Alabama on Nov. 22 and hosted by the University of Montevallo.

The NCAA II National Championship returns to Louisville and Sawyer Park on Dec. 6 and will be held in conjunction with the NCAA Fall Sports Festival.

Tusculum College, located in Greeneville, Tennessee, is affiliated with the Presbyterian Church, USA and is a NCAA Division II member of the South Atlantic Conference. Tusculum, the oldest college in the State of Tennessee, sponsors 16 intercollegiate sports, including women's lacrosse, which will be competing in its first season during the 2014-2015 academic year.

Tusculum, the 28th oldest college in the nation, is a liberal arts institution committed to providing a liberal arts education in a Judeo-Christian and civic arts environment, with pathways for career preparation, personal development and civic engagement. Approximately twenty-one hundred students are enrolled on the main campus in Greeneville and three off-site locations in East Tennessee. The academic programs for both traditional-aged students and working adults served through the Graduate and Professional Studies program are delivered using focused calendars whereby students enroll in one course at a time.
