Pioneers compete at Greater Louisville Classic
LOUISVILLE, Ky. ---

The Tusculum College men's and Women's cross country teams competed at the Greater Louisville Classic on the grounds of E.P. "Tom" Sawyer State Park Saturday afternoon.

Running in the Silver Division at the meet, the Pioneer men finished in 29th place out of 38 teams with a score of 717 points. The Tusculum women are currently unscored in the team results due to a power failure caused by heavy rain near the end of the race, which prevented three of the Pioneers' seven runners from being recorded as they crossed the line.

The Pioneer men were led by junior David Cooper, who finished 50th in a field of 328 runners with a time of 27:55.89. Sophomore Lawson Burrow was 110th in 29:02.72, followed by junior Zachary Simpson in 167th place in 29:56.76.

Freshman Cory Ramsey was 205th overall with a time of 30:42.47, and freshman Isaac Ringley was the fifth and final scorer for the Pioneers with a finishing time of 34:41.13 in 298th place.

Kris Sandlin of Franklin College was the men's individual race winner with a time of 25:29.62, nearly 14 seconds better than runner-up John-Paul Williams of Lindsey Wilson. The Lindenwood men won the team championship with 89 points, followed by Carnegie Mellon (101) and Union (Tenn.) with 150.

The current Women's meet results show Tusculum freshman Samantha Johns in 33rd place with a time of 20:02, followed by Allison Hall in 201st place at 23:15, Ashley Gregg in 215th at 24:01 and Lakesa Hendrix in 270th place at 26:20. Also competing for the Pioneers but currently unranked in the unofficial results are Maggie Bernabei, who was timed in 21:08, Kim Brown who crossed the line in 23:10, and Paige Bible, who finished in 23:14.

TaPring Goatee of Vincennes was declared the individual race winner, with the team championship going to Hope with 58 points, followed by Marian (148) and Alderson Broaddus (196).

Tusculum will compete next Friday at the Royals Cross Country Challenge hosted by Queens University at McAlpine Creek Park in Charlotte. The course will be the site of the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional on Nov. 9.
