2013 Tusculum cross country schedule released

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- The Tusculum College cross country team has released its 2013 schedule announced head coach Cory Pratt. (2013 Schedule)

The Pioneers will open its season Sep. 7 when they travel to Newton, N.C. for the Lenoir-Rhyne Invitational. The TC men finished fifth at last year's L-R event, while the women placed seventh. Lawson Burrow was Tusculum's top finisher at the 8K men's race, placing 12th with a time of 28:01. Maggie Bernabei was the top women's finisher for TC at last year's race with a 17th-place performance with a 5K-time of 21:31.

On Sep. 14, Tusculum will be competing at the Hyder-McMahill Invitational, hosted by Montreat College in Montreat, N.C.

The Pioneers will run at the VMI Invitational on Sep. 21 in Buena Vista, Va.

TC will be at the Greater Louisville Classic on Oct. 5 in what promises to be one of the largest collegiate meets in the region. The race will be held at Tom Sawyer Park in Louisville, Ky., which has hosted the NCAA Division II national championship in the past.

The 2013 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Championship will be held Oct. 26 in Black Mountain, N.C. and hosted by Mars Hill University. The TC men finished seventh at last year's championship held at Tusculum, led by David Cooper, who posted a fourth-place finish to earn a spot on the All-SAC first team. Bernabei finished 31st at her first SAC championship and was named to the SAC All-Freshman Team.

The NCAA II Southeast Region Championship will be contested on Nov. 9 and held at McAlpine Park in Charlotte, N.C. New SAC member Queens University of Charlotte will once again serve as championship host.

This year's NCAA II National Championship will be held at the Plants Ferry Athletic Complex in Spokane, Wash. on Nov. 23.

Pratt, who is entering his first season at the helm of the Tusculum program, returns nine letter-winners from last season, including three on the men's side and six female runners.
