MORRISTOWN, Tenn. --- Tusculum College freshman recorded another top 20 finish as the Pioneers competed at the Carson-Newman Challenge, Saturday morning at Panther Creek State Park. The Tusculum men and women each finished eighth in their respective races.
In the men's meet, Cooper finished 19th with a time of 28:44.57 on the 8,000-meter layout, which will be the site of next month's Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Championship.
TC's Kekona Soon placed 36th with his time of 30:28.50, while Elijah Minter posted a time of 32:09.74 to finish 36th. Elvis Machado finished 51st (33:14.12), while George Blalock placed 53rd (33:46.04) as all five TC runners each posted times below 34:00.
Tiffin University won the men's race with a team score of 23 points, led by Colin Fisher, who won the race with a time of 25:34.87. Former Tusculum standout Simon Holzapfel placed second with a time of 26:04.33 as he ran attached. Tennessee Wesleyan placed second with 88 points, followed by Lincoln Memorial (100), Brevard (106), Carson-Newman (139), Catawba (147), Maryville (153), Tusculum and Johnson University (216).
Tusculum's Jenny Grant was the top TC runner in the women's 5K race. Grant finished 33rd with her time of 23:44.77. Lakesa Hendrix came in 39th place with a time of 24:22.84. Ashley Gregg (25:09.46) and Kim Brown (25:16.69) finished 48th and 49th, respectively, followed by Ashley Andrukonis (63rd - 28:31.02) and Carol Hogan (64th - 28:34.99).
Tiffin won the women's team title with 23 points as the Dragons captured four of the top five positions. Carson-Newman placed second with 63 points, followed by Lincoln Memorial (100), Brevard (121), Catawba (133), Tennessee Wesleyan (140), Maryville (169) and Tusculum.
Tennessee Wesleyan's Sarah Birgen won the women's individual title with her time of 19:44.11, the only sub-20 minute time in Saturday morning's field.
