ROCK HILL, S.C. ---
Tusculum College's Simon Holzapfel has been named
the South Atlantic Conference Men's Cross Country Runner of the
Week announced league officials Monday. This marks the second time
Holzapfel has earned SAC Runner of the Week honors in his
career.
Holzapfel, a junior from Nuremberg, Germany, finished first at the
Wingate University Invitational with a time of 26:38 over the
8,000-meter course. Holzapfel recorded his seventh individual title
of his career and second in a row in as many meets this season. His
8K time was the third best in school history, giving Holzapfel the
best five times ever by a Pioneer.
Holzapfel is already one of the most decorated runners in the
program's history. He was named to the 2008 NCAA All-Region Team
and the All-SAC First Team as he finished runner-up in last year's
league championship. He has also shined in the classroom and was
named to the 2008-09 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America?
Team.
Tusculum returns to action on Oct. 1 when they compete at the
Virginia-Wise Invitational in Wise, Va.
