Adkins, Burrowes earn AVCA Division II All-America honorable mention

LEXINGTON, Ky. --- The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) announced the 42nd annual All-America teams for NCAA Division II women's volleyball. Madison Adkins and Emiah Burrowes of Tusculum University were featured on the honorable mention list.

Burrowes is the first Pioneer to repeat on the AVCA national list, while Adkins becomes the seventh in program history to be named an All-American: Carla Loyd (NAIA), Vivian Lacy (AVCA), Caitlyn Dean (AVCA, D2CCA), Melissa Mazur (D2CCA), and Burrowes (AVCA x2).

A graduate student, Burrowes was named first team all-region by the organization for the third time in her career after earning MVP honors at the South Atlantic Conference tournament. The Wesley Chapel, North Carolina native goes down as one of the program's most prolific scorers, playing in 114 matches across 400 sets. Burrowes sits third in the TU record book in career kills per set (3.37), total attempts (3,619), and attempts per set (9.05), while ranking fourth in career kills (1,347), and 11th in hitting percentage (.220). She finished 35 digs away from a 1,000/1,000 career.

On the season, Burrowes played in all 99 sets, amassing a team-high 357 kills (3.61 per frame) on a .224 hitting percentage, nine assists, 23 service aces, 255 digs (2.58 per set), and 31 total blocks for a four point per set average. The outside hitter accounted for 10 double-doubles, including four-straight to end her career. Burrowes recorded a season-best 20 kills in the regular season finale against Mars Hill on a .357 clip, while her high of 21 digs occurred in her first double-double of the year versus Florida Tech. Across the 29 matches, she reached double-digit kills in 22, including the final 10.

Adkins had a breakout junior campaign, taking over as the TU starting setter in mid-September. The Olive Hill, Kentucky product became the 13th setter in program history to reach the 1,000-assist benchmark, highlighted by 860 in 2023 alone, an 8.96 per frame rate. Since taking over as the primary distributor, Adkins dished out 651 helpers on a 10.67 per set average across the remaining 61 frames, which powered the Pioneers to a 15-3 record in the span. Additionally, Adkins contributed 64 kills on a .288 clip, 42 aces (second-most on the team), 223 digs, and 52 total blocks in 96 sets. She recorded double-digit assists in 27-of-29 matches (25-straight), including a career-best 47 in her first match as the lone leader.

Tusculum claimed its first-ever SAC Tournament title in 2023, with Burrowes as the event MVP and Adkins tabbed to the all-tournament team. The Pioneers earned their seventh postseason berth, the second under head coach Danielle Marante's tenure.
