Burrowes earns TSWA player of the week honors

NASHVILLE, Tenn. --- Tusculum University women's volleyball graduate student Emiah Burrowes earned her first career Player of the Week honor from the Tennessee Sports Writers Association on Tuesday (Nov. 21). The Pioneers won the program's first South Atlantic Conference Tournament championship as Burrowes was named the most valuable player.

This is Tusculum's first TSWA honoree since Cassie Born in 2017.

Burrowes, an outside hitter from Wesley Chapel, North Carolina, averaged 4.42 kills, 3.17 digs and 4.79 points per set as she collected 53 total kills, 38 digs and had three blocks, ending the SAC tournament with a .219 attack percentage.

The fifth-year player recorded double-doubles in all three of the postseason contests, which included two upsets. In the opener against Catawba, Burrowes tallied 19 kills and 13 digs, adding two service aces. Versus Anderson, she landed 18 kills on a .341 hitting percentage and another 13 digs. In the final over nationally-ranked Wingate, Burrowes notched 16 kills, 12 digs, two blocks, and no reception errors.

On the season, Burrowes is averaging 3.64 kills per frame on a .232 clip with a 2.58 dig rate.

The Pioneers (22-6) are on a 10-match winning streak entering the NCAA II Southeast Regionals. TU will play Peach Belt champion Augusta University in the opening round on December 1, hosted by Wingate University.
