Pioneers beaten by region foe Augusta

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. --- The Tusculum women's volleyball team had a rematch against reigning region champion Augusta on Friday (Oct. 21) at the SAC/PBC Crossover. However, the Jags repeated their performance by sweeping TU.

The Pioneers (8-10) dropped the match by scores of 21-25, 21-25, 22-25 to the Jaguars (18-5).

Jazmyn Wheeler led the match with 17 kills on a .300 hitting percentage. Samantha Zittrauer (16) and Abigail Breeden (15) combined for 31 assists, while Jada Suguturaga, Kiera Barr, and Breeden accounted for the Jags' service aces. The libero Barr finished with a team-best 15 digs, the only player for Augusta to reach double-figures in the category. Suguturaga took part in seven of the Jaguars' nine blocks, recording one solo and six assists. Madelyn Eden was credited with five block assists as well.

Three Pioneers tallied seven kills across the match: Martina Foster, Carli Pigza, and Peyton Gash. Setters Samantha Bunch and Elise Carmichael both finished with 15 assists for Tusculum. Foster (2) and Bunch (1) landed the service points. Carly Sosnowski collected a match-best 16 digs, joined by Bunch with 12. Raven Chance headed up the net defense with four total blocks (one solo, three assists). Gash added three block assists to the effort.

Augusta hit .146 as a team with 39 kills and 21 errors on 123 total attempts. Tusculum hit .107 with 36 kills, 23 errors, and 122 total attacks. The Jaguars led the Pioneers in assists (37-32) and total blocks (9-5), while the teams tied with three aces and 55 digs each.

Tusculum repeats the trip to Jefferson City for the third time this week, finishing up its stint at the SAC/PBC Crossover on Saturday (Oct. 22). The Pioneers round out the regional event inside Holt Fieldhouse against Georgia College (12 p.m.) and USC Aiken (4 p.m.).
