Pioneers undone by Trojans at home

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- The Tusculum women's volleyball team fell to the Anderson Trojans in front of a loud Pioneer Arena on Friday night (Oct. 14).

The Pioneers (7-8, 7-5 SAC) dropped the match by scores of 16-25, 29-27, 19-25, 14-25 to the Trojans (17-4, 11-3 SAC).

Anderson had a combined 32 kills from Liliana Kinder (19) and Noelle Knutsen (13). Kinder hit .359, while the latter fired at a .478 rate. Jaelyn Grimm added seven kills on a .545 hitting percentage as well. Jenna Long dished out 53-of-56 assists in the Trojan victory. Grimm landed a match-high three service aces, joined by Tabitha Wheeler and Lindsay McCurley with a pair apiece. Wheeler and Hannah Neff each recorded a dozen digs, one ahead of McCurley's 11. Knutsen did damage at the net as well, tallying five total blocks (four solo, one assist). Grimm contributed four stops to the cause (one solo, three assists).

In arguably one of her best games of the season, Carli Pigza notched 15 kills on a .370 clip. Martina Foster also reached double digits in kills with 10 on an efficient .368 rate. Emiah Burrowes (9), Peyton Gash (9), Raven Chance (2), Camryn Hughes (2), and Christina Jackson (1) rounded out the scoring. All of the Pioneer assists were spread amongst three players: Elise Carmichael (25), Samantha Bunch (16), and Carly Sosnowski (2). Foster and Bunch contributed the two aces. Sosnowski dug up a match-best 14 digs, while Bunch finished out her first career double-double with 10 digs. Foster and Pigza each recorded two block assists, with Burrowes adding a solo and assisted stuff. Gash, Chance, and Hayley Stull also found their way into the blocking column.

Anderson hit .294 as a team with 61 kills and 21 errors on 136 total attempts. Tusculum hit .187 with 48 kills, 23 errors, and 134 total attacks. The Trojans led the Pioneers in assists (56-43), aces (9-2), digs (55-47), and total blocks (11-5).

Tusculum continues its home weekend with Newberry on Saturday (Oct. 15). The Wolves will come into the 2 p.m. match with a 10-11 (5-7 SAC) record. Fans are encouraged to bring donation items for the campus food pantry and clothing closet.
