Pioneers felled by ranked Bulldogs

WINGATE, N.C. --- The Tusculum University women's volleyball team had its four-match winning streak ended by No. 24 Wingate on Saturday afternoon (Sept. 24).

The Black and Orange (4-6, 4-3 SAC) dropped the contest by scores of 25-17, 26-24, 25-23 to the Bulldogs (16-1, 7-0 SAC).

Wingate's Molly Lambillotte was the lone player of the match to record double-digit kills with 11, hitting .333. Maggie Young tallied seven points on a .400 rate. Shannon Kasprak dished out 31 of the Bulldogs' 33 assists, also landing four service aces. The setter rounded out her double-double with 12 digs. Both Young and Gabby Saye were credited with four total blocks (one solo, three assists). Emily Johnson contributed three block assists.

Peyton Gash led Tusculum with nine kills on a .333 hitting percentage. Isabella Biesterfeld tied her career-best six kills on a .357 clip off the bench. Elise Carmichael (12), Carly Sosnowski (10), and Samantha Bunch (6) combined to record all of the Pioneers' assists in the match. Carmichael landed a team-high three aces (moving her into sole possession of fifth in the program career records), joined by Sosnowski and Bunch with one apiece. The latter duo each scooped up 12 digs as well. Martina Foster was responsible for four block assists. Three for TU were credited with a pair of block assists: Carli Pigza, Raven Chance, and Biesterfeld (tying her collegiate-high). Sosnowski earned her first career double-double, thanks to her personal-best in assists.

Wingate hit .208 as a team with 38 kills and 16 errors on 106 total attempts. Tusculum hit .086 with 31 kills, 22 errors, and 105 total attacks. The Bulldogs led the match in assists (33-28), service aces (7-5), and total blocks (10-6), while the Pioneers had the slightest edge in digs (48-47).

Tusculum has rescheduled its postponed home match with Limestone (6-3, 3-3 SAC) for Tuesday, September 27. The second go between the Pioneers and Saints is set for 7 p.m.
