Tusculum drops contest at Queens, earns 8th seed in SAC tournament

CHARLOTTE, N.C. --- The Tusculum University women's volleyball team fell in the regular season finale to the Queens University of Charlotte Royals on Saturday (Apr. 3) afternoon. The South Atlantic Conference revealed the seeding for the spring tournament and Tusculum earned the No. 8 slot.

TU won the tiebreaker over Lincoln Memorial due to a head-to-head win in March and Lenoir-Rhyne entered COVID-19 protocols, thus bumping up the Pioneers into contention. Tusculum will travel to top-seeded Wingate on Tuesday (Apr. 6) for a 7 p.m. first serve.

The Royals (6-4, 6-4 SAC) won by scores of 25-7, 25-23, 25-14, sweeping the Pioneers (2-3, 2-3 SAC).

Queens was led by Casey Tarvin's match-high 15 kills. Brooke Farley registered 26 assists and went 4-for-4 on attacks. Gabbi Montgomery, JayCee Jones, and Farley landed a pair of service aces each. Jones (12) and Kate Majewski (11) notched double-digit digs. Montgomery and Logan Witt are both credited with three total blocks.

Peyton Gash collected 10 kills to head up the Pioneer attack, followed by Bailey Parker (6) and Carli Pigza (5). Elise Carmichael dished out 21 assists, while Carly Sosnowski and Catherine Clingan contributed the aces. Sosnowski also led the match with her 14 digs, ahead of Kyndall Kalb's nine. Pigza's five total blocks (two solo, three assists) were a season-best.

Queens finished the match with a .271 hitting percentage with 37 kills, 11 errors, and 96 total attempts. TU tallied 25 kills, 20 errors, and 101 attacks for a .050 hitting percentage. The Royals led the Pioneers in assists (34-24), digs (51-44), aces (8-2), and total blocks (7-6).
