Pioneers host winless UVA Wise

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- The Tusculum University women's volleyball team will bring in the UVA Wise Cavaliers for a Friday (Mar. 19) night bout. The Pioneers intend to sweep their third consecutive match, while the visitors are looking for their first win of the season.

RECAPPING THE WEEK
Tusculum (2-1, 2-1 SAC) played two matches last week, blanking both Lincoln Memorial and Catawba.

Carli Pigza and Peyton Gash crushed the conference competition. Pigza totaled 18 kills on a .359 hitting percentage, while the latter added 19 kills on a .395 average. Emiah Burrowes (14) and Gabby Gray (10) also contributed double-digit kills. The setting dual threat of Elise Carmichael and Catherine Clingan dished out 30 assists each, collecting 60-of-68 across the two matches. Carly Sosnowski dug up 21 attack attempts with Burrowes just behind with 17. Lydia Collins is credited with six block assists, while Pigza collected five.

As a team, Tusculum is holding opponents to a 0.080 hitting percentage, good for fourth nationally.

Clingan's 0.78 aces per set is fifth across Division II.

LOOKING AHEAD
UVA Wise (0-4, 0-4 SAC) won its first set in conference play since joining the SAC for the 2019-20 season, falling 3-1 to Carson-Newman on March 9. Kelsey Green (26) and Adison Minor (21) have contributed the most offense for UVA Wise, aided by 69 assists from Makayla Ledford. Both Green and Rylee Waye have landed six aces across the four matches. Four Cavaliers have recorded over 20 digs, led by Bethany Smith's 25. Brooke Abbott and Cassidy Farley are the main deflectors at the net and are credited with eight and seven total blocks, respectively.
