AUSTIN, Texas --- Tusculum College right-side hitter Rachel Garnett has been named to the 2016 NCAA Division II Academic All-District 3 Volleyball first team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Garnett, a senior from Cincinnati, Ohio, has a 3.83 cumulative grade point average while majoring in nursing. She is a member of the South Atlantic Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll, Dean's List, Athletic Director's Honor Roll, Charles Oliver Gray Honors List and the President's List.
The two-time All-SAC honoree is averaging 2.10 kills per set and has a .243 hitting percentage. She has totaled 185 kills, 35 digs and 24 blocks in her final collegiate season. The 2013 SAC Freshman of the Year has played in 425 sets during her career which are the 10th most in program history. Her 2,870 total attacks and her .236 career hitting percentage are both listed eighth in the TC record book.
Garnett advances to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® ballot with the winners being announced Dec. 7.
Members of the CoSIDA NCAA II Academic All-District 3 Team are selected from nominees representing all colleges and universities in the South Atlantic Conference, Conference Carolinas and Peach Belt Conference.
Tusculum (11-15, 6-12 SAC) returns to action this Friday night when they host Anderson University for a 7 p.m. conference match at Pioneer Arena. It is Senior Night for the Pioneers as the College will be honoring Garnett and Sarah Bouley in pre-match ceremonies.
