Tusculum volleyball bounces back with 3-1 SAC win over Coker

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Sarah Bouley recorded 15 kills and a .344 hitting percentage while Cassie Born contributed a double-double of 11 kills and a match-high 24 digs to lead the Tusculum College volleyball team to a 3-1 South Atlantic Conference win over visiting Coker College Friday night at Pioneer Arena.

The Pioneers (8-7, 5-6 SAC) won the match by scores of 25-18, 20-25, 25-21, 25-15 as Tusculum snapped a three-match losing streak. 

Tusculum hit for .228 for the match with 58 kills, while limiting the Cobras (9-7, 3-7 SAC) to hit just .062 with 30 kills on the evening.

In the first set, Bouley recorded six kills, three digs and a pair of blocks as Tusculum won the frame 25-18.  The Pioneers jumped out to a 10-5 lead and never looked back as TC hit for .204 with 17 kills, while Coker only had seven kills and hit for .051.

The Cobras answered in the second set with a 25-20 win to even the match at 1-1.  After a Coker timeout and with the visitors trailing 16-15, the Cobras scored four straight points and closed out the frame with a 10-4 spurt, including the final three points of the set, capped by Christen Bragg service ace.

Tusculum bounced back in the third set as TC rallied from a 16-14 deficit and closed out the set with three straight points, including back-to-back kills from Laryssa Welch and Bouley as TC came out on top 25-21 to take a 2-1 lead in the match.  In the set, Welch and Bouley each had four kills, while Born tallied three kills and six digs.

In the fourth frame, Tusculum hits for a sizzling .350 with a dozen kills, including three each from Mariah Lewis, Born and Welch as the Pioneers won 25-15 to seal the victory for the Black and Orange.  TC used a 7-0 run as Megan Yopko recorded three of her four service aces during the Tusculum spurt.  The Pioneers finished off the contest by scoring the final five points, including a service ace by Melissa Mazur on match-point.

Welch finished with nine kills, five digs and three blocks, while Lewis added eight kills and four blocks for the Pioneers.  Hallie Zumack dished out 29 assists and five digs, while Shannon Murphy recorded four kills, three digs and 19 assists.

Coker's Madison Bingle posted seven kills and seven digs for the Cobras.

Tusculum returns to action Saturday afternoon when they host 24th-ranked Wingate University for a 2 p.m. match at Pioneer Arena. Coker will be at Mars Hill University on Saturday for a league tilt.
