Newberry sweeps Tusculum volleyball 3-0

NEWBERRY, S.C. --- Newberry's Madison Darby McClure recorded 10 kills and a .435 hitting percentage to lead the Wolves to a three-set sweep over Tusculum College Saturday afternoon at Eleazer Arena in South Atlantic Conference volleyball action.

Newberry (9-8, 6-3 SAC) won the match by scores of 25-23, 25-18, 26-24 as the Pioneers go 0-2 on their South Carolina road swing this weekend.

Andie Meredith added 11 kills, while Logan Hayward tallied nine kills and a dozen digs in the victory.

Tusculum senior Sarah Bouley finished with 11 kills, eight digs and two blocks, while Rachel Garnett also posted 11 kills and a .370 attack percentage.    Hallie Zumack dished out 23 assists, while Shannon Murphy finished with a double-double of 11 assists and 11 digs for the Pioneers (7-6, 4-5 SAC).  TC sophomore Melissa Mazur led all players with 28 digs and posted three assists.

Newberry made 49 kills with 14 errors in 145 attempts for a .241 attack percentage. Tusculum posted a .164 average with 42 kills against 17 errors and 152 total attacks.  Tusculum recorded three service aces including one each from Zumack, Murphy and Brooke Statler.

Tusculum returns to action on Tuesday night when they travel to Lenoir-Rhyne University for a 7 p.m. match at Shuford Memorial Gymnasium.
