GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Madison Shumaker of Riner, Virginia
became one of the first members of the Tusculum College Volleyball
team's 2015 signing class after signing with the Pioneers back in
the most recent early signing period.
Shumaker is a 5-9 outside hitter out of Auburn High School.
She led the Eagles to three-straight Virginia High School Coaches
Association state titles and has been honored as the West
Conference 45 Player of the Year, the Virginia High School League
Player of the Year and the Southwest Region Player of the Year.
Shumaker was also named to the VHSCA All-State Team and was named a
VHSL All-State performer.
Shumaker played for the River Valley Juniors club team and
averaged 2.43 kills per set between two seasons. She tallied 428
total kills in 176 sets and had 396 digs, including 299 during the
2014 campaign. She also had 49 service aces and 25 blocks. Off the
court, Shumaker carried a 4.0 GPA and was named to the honor roll
and was a member of National Beta Club, FFA, and the Fellowship of
Christian Athletes.
"We are really looking forward to getting Madison on the court
with us this fall," said Robinson. "Not only does she posses a
strong offensive skill set, but she also has great ball control.
She is an aggressive player who brings an outstanding amount of
passion on to the court."
Tusculum will be looking to build off its ninth-straight
winning season and its fourth place finish in the South Atlantic
Conference in 2014. The Pioneers return two All-SAC performers from
last season and a pair of seniors.
