Four Pioneers Named to All-SAC Volleyball Teams
ROCK HILL, S.C. --- Four Tusculum College student-athletes have been recognized as 2014 All-South Atlantic Conference performers as announced today by the conference office.

Sophomore libero Moriah Jones headlines the group as she was named to the All-SAC first team as the top defensive player in the conference. Senior outside hitter Megan Hasse was selected to the All-SAC second team, while sophomore right side Rachel Garnett and freshman middle blocker Laryssa Welch were All-SAC honorable mention selections. Welch was also named to the All-Freshman team.

Jones, a native of North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, picks up her first career all-conference award after ranking second in the SAC in digs per set (5.40) and third in total digs (572). Jones Has registered double-figure digs in all but two matches this season and has surpassed the 30-dig plateau on five occasions.

Jones tallied a season-high 34 digs in a four-set victory at Newberry on Sept. 20, which accounted for 8.50 digs per set. She also ranks third on the team in assists with 74 and in service aces with 22. This is the fifth-consecutive season that the Tusculum has had the top libero in the all-conference awards.

Hasse garners her second-consecutive all-conference award after being an honorable mention selection last season. The Kingston Springs, Tennessee native ranks second in the SAC in total kills (365) and third in kills per set (3.35). She has recorded double-figure kills in 20 of TC's 30 matches, and surpassed 20 kills on three occasions, including a season-high 26 in a four-set victory at Catawba on Oct. 25.

Hasse's 208 total digs is second on the team excluding liberos, and her 1.91 digs per set ranks sixth. She has tallied double-doubles on six occasions, and has 41 blocks, which is tied for third on the team.

As Hasse wraps-up her career at Tusculum, she will go down as one of the most prolific attackers in school history. She will finish in the top 10 in career attacks, total kills, and kills per set. Hasse has also been a force at the serving line, ranking second in the TC record books with 149 total service aces.

Garnett also picks up her second-consecutive All-SAC honor after being named the 2013 Freshman of the Year. This season, the Cincinnati, Ohio product ranks second on the team in total kills (228) and third in kills per set (2.23).

She has tallied double-figure kills in eight matches this season, including a season-high 14 against Flagler on Sept. 12. Garnett also ranks fourth on the team with 43 total blocks and has totaled 53 digs.

Welch has made an immediate impact for the Pioneers in her rookie campaign. The New Castle, Indiana native ranks fifth in the SAC in hitting percentage at .303, and is second on the team in kills per set (2.23) and fourth in total kills (185).

She has recorded double-figure kills on seven occasions, including a season high 19 in a five-set victory at Anderson on Sept. 19. Welch is also ranked third on the team in total blocks (46) and third in blocks per set (0.55). It is the third-straight season that Tusculum has had a player named to the All-Freshman team, and Welch is the first Pioneer to earn all-freshman accolades and be named to the honorable mention team in the same season.

Tusculum (16-14) has earned the No. 4 seed in this weekend's SAC Tournament, which is being hosted by Lenoir-Rhyne at Shuford Memorial Arena in Hickory, North Carolina.
