GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- The Tusculum College Volleyball team won its seventh-straight match Saturday afternoon by defeating Lenoir-Rhyne University 3-0 inside Pioneer Arena. TC was led by Megan Hasse, who tallied a double-double with 14 kills and 12 digs.

Tusculum improves its record to 7-1 in the South Atlantic Conference and 8-8 overall after its fourth-straight 3-0 sweep. The Pioneers won by the scores of 25-23, 25-11, and 25-23. Lenoir-Rhyne falls to 11-5 overall and 5-4 in the SAC.

Junior setter Hannah Berling also recorded a double-double with a match-high 30 assists and 13 digs. Sophomore libero Moriah Jones compiled a match-high 18 digs, while sophomore middle blocker Jaida Allen tallied six kills and six blocks. Sophomore outside hitter Rachel Garnett added seven kills.

With the score knotted at 13-13 in the first set, a kill by Hasse gave the Pioneers their first lead of the match. TC used a 6-2 run to increase its advantage to 20-15, and force an L-R timeout. After the break, the Bears answered with a 5-0 run to tied the set at 20-20.

After an attack error by the Bears, Hasse and Lenoir-Rhyne's Ashley Wells exchanged kills on six consecutive points that tied the score at 23-23. Garnett gave TC set-point on a kill, and the Pioneers won the set on an attack error by the Bears' Morgan Bunker.
Lenoir-Rhyne held an early 5-3 lead in the second set, but a 10-0 Pioneer run off the serves of Hasse gave TC a 13-5 advantage. The closest L-R would get to the lead in the set was seven points, and Tusculum cruised to the 11 point second-set victory to take a 2-0 lead in the match. The Pioneers held the Bears to a -.143 attack clip in the set.

Fueled by the momentum of the lopsided second-set victory, the Pioneers came into the third game hot, and jumped out to an early 8-2 lead. However, the Bears used a 5-0 and a 7-0 run to take their first lead of the set at 14-13. Both sides traded the lead four times, but TC found itself holding a 19-15 lead late in the game on the heels of a pair of 3-0 runs.

L-R fought back to cut the deficit to 23-22 late, but a service error by Brooke Redman gave the Pioneers match-point. Wells recorded a kill to make the score 24-23 and keep the match alive momentarily, but a huge kill by Garnett gave TC a 25-23 third-set victory, and a 3-0 win.

Wells led the Bear offense with 11 kills, while Briana Gottberg dished out 26 assists. Ashley Markland recorded 16 digs, while Redman added nine kills and nine digs.

After wrapping up a four-match homestand, Tusculum will travel to Mars Hill University this Tuesday (Oct. 7) for a 7 p.m. matchup against the Lions.
