Tusculum earns No. 2 seed, open SAC Volleyball Tournament with Mars Hill in Friday quarterfinal
ROCK HILL, S.C.

--- The Tusculum College volleyball team has earned the No. 2 seed for this week's Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Tournament which is being held this weekend (Nov. 22-24) at Eleazer Arena on the campus of Newberry College.

Tusculum (20-9) will face seventh-seeded Mars Hill University in Friday's quarterfinal contest at 5 p.m.

Defending SAC Tournament champion and ninth-ranked Wingate University will be the No. 1 seed and will face host and No. 8-seed Newberry at noon to open the single-elimination event. No. 4 Lincoln Memorial University will face No. 5 Queens University of Charlotte in the day's second match at 2:30 p.m. Tusculum and Mars Hill square off at 5 p.m., followed by the No. 3 Lenoir-Rhyne University/No. 6 Anderson University match at 7:30 p.m.

Semifinals will begin at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday with the championship match slated for 2 p.m. on Sunday with the winner earning the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Division II Tournament.

The Pioneers and Lions (16-11) have faced off in the SAC Tournament quarterfinals in two of the last three years, both Tusculum wins and both coming in a 2-seed vs. 7-seed match-up. TC defeated the Lions 3-0 in the 2010 quarterfinals and advanced with a 3-1 victory in last year's postseason encounter.

Seven of the eight teams in the SAC Tournament are currently ranked in the NCAA II Southeast Region poll.

Entering its 15th SAC Tournament, the Pioneers are 8-14 all-time in the league postseason, but are 5-3 over the last three seasons.

Tusculum has already clinched the program's eighth consecutive winning season and 22nd campaign with at least 20 victories.
