GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Erika Garcia has signed a
national letter of intent to attend Tusculum College and play
volleyball for the Pioneers announced TC head coach Nathan
Baker.
Garcia, a 5-2 libero from Dayton, Ohio, was a three-time
All-Conference selection at Beavercreek High School where she was
coached by Kristine Dabbelt. She also garnered All-District 15
honors on three occasions and was named her team's most valuable
player this year.
The played her club volleyball for the Dayton Jrs, where she was
coached by Don Wood, Yoon Ha and Howard Garcia. Her club team
qualified for nationals four times and has been ranked in the top
four in the Ohio Valley Region the last four years.
"Erika is a furious competitor; she will come in a give us help in
our defensive position right away," said Baker. "We're extremely
excited to have her on board for next season. She has played at a
high level during club season and should do well adjusting to
college play."
She earned the Top Libero Award at the University of Buffalo Camp
in 2007. Her sister, Lizaiha Garcia, just completed her final
season on the Buffalo volleyball team.
Tusculum posted a 25-10 record, including 11-3 in South Atlantic
Conference play, finishing second in the league.
Tusculum College, located in Greeneville, Tenn., is affiliated
with the Presbyterian Church (USA) and is a NCAA Division II member
of the South Atlantic Conference which is comprised of nine
colleges and universities in Tennessee, North Carolina and South
Carolina.
