TUSCULUM VOLLEYBALL HOSTS "DIG FOR THE CURE" DAY THIS WEEKEND

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Head coach Nathan Baker and the Tusculum College volleyball program has designated this Saturday's home match versus Brevard College as "Dig For the Cure" Day at Pioneer Arena beginning at 11 a.m. Tusculum is one of 42 colleges and universities in the country that have dedicated a home match to raise money for breast cancer research.

This marks the second year that the Pioneers have participated in this program. Tusculum raised over $2,000 at last year's event. This year's "Dig For the Cure" Day will be held at the home match during Tusculum's Homecoming Weekend festivities.

Participating schools designate one home volleyball match in October, which is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Individual sponsors pledge money per dig earned by their team in the match, or can make a flat donation to the cause. The money raised by each team goes directly to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation's local affiliate in their community.

The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation was established in 1982 by Nancy Brinker to honor the memory of her sister, Susan G. Komen, who died from breast cancer at the age of 36. Today, the Foundation is an international organization with a network of more than 75,000 volunteers working through local affiliates and events like the Komen Race for the Cure® to eradicate breast cancer as a life-threatening disease. Together with its Affiliate Network, corporate partners and generous donors, the Komen Foundation has raised more than $740 million for the fight against breast cancer.
For more information, visit www.komen.org or call the National Toll-Free Breast Care Hotline at 1-800 I'M AWARE® (1-800-462-9273). Anyone interested in pledging money or making a donation to this year's Dig For the Cure effort can contact Tusculum head coach Nathan Baker by emailing him at nbaker@tusculum.edu.

The Pioneers (17-7, 6-1 in South Atlantic Conference) are riding a nine-match winning streak. Tusculum will host defending SAC co-champion Lenoir-Rhyne College on Friday night at 7 p.m. at Pioneer Arena.
