WINGATE, N.C. --- Wingate University defeated Tusculum University 6-1 in South Atlantic Conference women's tennis Saturday afternoon at the WU Tennis Complex.
The 13th-ranked Bulldogs (14-1, 9-0 SAC) earned a sweep of doubles and won its five singles matches in straight sets from the 37th-ranked Pioneers (11-6, 5-3 SAC).
After Wingate won the doubles point, the Bulldogs stretched their lead until the Pioneers got on the board at flight three, where Ylva Frafjord Landa won in a super tiebreak against Suzuka Sambyakugari by a 2-6, 6-3 (10-7) score.
Tusculum slipped into a tie for fourth place in the SAC standings with Carson-Newman (7-6, 5-3 SAC), who the Pioneers will host on Monday at 1 p.m. at the Nichols Tennis Complex in their next match.
