Pioneers record 7-0 victory over North Greenville

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Tusculum University posted a clean 7-0 sweep of North Greenville University in the final women's competition of the fall for the Pioneers on Saturday at the Nichols Tennis Complex.

The Pioneers (2-0) swept through doubles and did not lose a set in singles against the Crusaders (0-2), losing two games or less in nine of the 12 singles sets.

In doubles, Elodie Baechler and Valentina Loretz defeated Abigail Watson and Vitoria Maximiliano 6-4 at flight one, Leonie Floeth and Ylva Frafjord Landa beat Martina Cairus and Naomi Sakakibara 6-2 at flight two, and Paulina Loretz teamed with Johanna Selde to earn a 6-4 win over Riley Gunter and Ashlen Chapman at flight three.

In singles play, Floeth was a 6-3, 7-5 winner over Watson at flight one, Baechler defeated Maximiliano 6-0, 6-3 at flight two and Valentina Loretz beat Cairus 6-1, 6-0 at flight three. At flight four, Paulina Loretz defeated Sakakibara 6-2, 6-2, with Landa winning 6-1, 6-1 at flight five over Megan Turner and Johanna Palacio taking a 6-0, 6-0 win at flight six over Gunter.

Tusculum will be back on the court on Saturday, January 20 with an exhibition match at Western Carolina.
