Floeth selected SAC Varsity Gems Player of the Week

ROCK HILL, S.C. --- Tusculum University sophomore Leonie Floeth has been named the South Atlantic Conference Varsity Gems Women's Tennis Player of the Week for the week ending April 16, the SAC office announced Monday.

Floeth went 3-0 in singles and 4-0 in doubles to help the Pioneers win the SAC Championship and earn the top seed in the upcoming SAC Tournament. All three of Floeth's singles wins came against nationally-ranked teams, including a come-from-behind win against 15th-ranked Wingate on Tuesday.

Floeth, who has played number-one singles for the Pioneers for the entire season, began the week with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Nastassia Chamoun of Newberry to help the Pioneers upset the 10th-ranked Wolves by a 5-2 score on Monday. The following day, Floeth came back for a 1-6, 6-2, 6-4 victory over Chloe Kosmrlj of Wingate to help the Pioneers secure a 4-3 victory. On Thursday, Floeth needed a super tiebreaker to post a 6-4, 5-7, (10-5) win over Matilde Moretti as the Pioneers beat 34th-ranked Catawba 6-1.

In doubles play, Floeth teamed with freshman Ylva Frafjord Landa for four victories in four days, with wins over Newberry (6-1), Wingate (6-3), Emory & Henry (6-2) and Catawba (6-4).

The Toenisvorst, Germany native has a 17-10 overall record this season in singles and is 12-8 in dual matches, with an 8-3 mark in conference play. Floeth is 18-10 in doubles, playing primarily with Landa as the duo is 14-6 overall, 11-4 in dual matches and 9-3 in SAC competition.
