Pioneers finish up at ITA Southeast Regional

SUMTER, S.C. --- The Tusculum University women's tennis team concluded competition at the ITA Southeast Regional on Saturday.

Picking up a pair of consolation wins were senior Emilie Hansen and freshman Leonie Floeth, with sophomore Paulina Loretz adding a victory in singles competition.

Hansen earned two straight-set wins, beating Kayla Vaughan of Belmont Abbey 6-2, 6-4 in the consolation round of 64 and defeating Julia Speiser 6-2, 6-3 in the round of 32. Floeth rallied twice from a set down in consolation play, beating Frankee Hendricks of Belmont Abbey 4-6, 6-4, (11-9) in the round of 64 followed by a 4-6, 7-5, (10-2) win over Catherine Blouin of Anderson in the round of 32.

Loretz also rallied for a win, coming back for a 3-6, 6-4, (10-6) win over Summer Reeves of Carson-Newman in the round of 64 before dropping a 6-0, 6-2 decision to Angelina Linnikova of North Georgia. Freshman Elodie Baechler lost her only singles match, dropping a 6-3, 6-2 decision to Elliott Peterson of Belmont Abbey in the round of 64.

In doubles play, Baechler and Loretz dropped a round of 32 match to Anika Nissen and Florencia Massardo Brain by a score of 8-2.

Tusculum will return to fall competition at the Carson-Newman Invitational, which will be held October 22-23 in Knoxville.
