Pioneers end 2021 season ranked 38th by ITA

TEMPE, Ariz. --- Tusculum University is 38th in the final Oracle/Intercollegiate Tennis Association Division II Women's National Team Rankings for the 2021 season, the ITA announced.

All-American Annie McCullough finished the year ranked 37th nationally in singles, and teamed with sister Caitlin McCullough to end the year ranked third in the Southeast Region in doubles by the ITA.

The Pioneers went 11-8 during the 2021 season, tying for fifth place in the South Atlantic Conference with a 7-5 league mark. Five of the Pioneers' eight losses came to teams ranked in the final ITA Top 50.

Annie McCullough finished the season with a team-best 13-2 singles record, giving her a school-record 104 overall singles wins for her career and second place in career dual-match wins with 67. McCullough was a four-time All-SAC honoree in singles and a three-time first-team All-Conference selection in doubles for the Pioneers.

As a team, the McCullough sisters were 12-3 overall during the 2021 season and had a 5-3 record in conference competition. The Belfast, Northern Ireland natives went 74-17 in doubles in four seasons together at Tusculum, and were ITA All-Americans during the 2019-20 season after finishing as Division II runners-up at the ITA Cup.

Barry won its fourth straight NCAA Division II championship and finished first in the final ITA rankings at 15-0. Indianapolis (23-1), the NCAA runner-up, was second, followed by Central Oklahoma, West Alabama and West Florida. The Southeast Region rankings were led by Columbus State, followed by Flagler, Wingate, North Georgia, Queens. Following Tusculum at sixth were Lenoir-Rhyne, Newberry, Georgia College and Erskine in tenth.
