McCulloughs earn national ranking from ITA

TEMPE, Ariz. --- Tusculum University All-Americans Annie McCullough and Caitlin McCullough are ranked 16th in doubles in the Oracle Intercollegiate Tennis Association Division II Women's Tennis rankings for the week ending April 5.

Annie McCullough is also ranked 22nd in singles for the Pioneers, who entered the week with a 10-4 overall record and a 7-2 mark in the South Atlantic Conference.

The McCullough sisters, who were honored as ITA All-Americans for the 2019-20 season after finishing as the Division II doubles runner-up at the ITA Cup in the fall of 2019, have a 12-3 record in doubles this season and a 5-3 record in South Atlantic Conference matches. The duo has won four straight contests and is 6-0 at home this season. The McCulloughs also have a pair of victories over Division I opponents, having earned wins against Western Carolina and ETSU.

The Belfast, Northern Ireland natives are the second-highest ranked doubles team out of the SAC, trailing only Yana Fleyer and Aliaksandra Davidzenka of Queens, and are third among Southeast Region duos. For their careers, the McCulloughs are 74-17 as a team in doubles, including a 51-11 mark in dual matches.

Annie McCullough has a 13-2 record in singles this season, with her losses coming to 27th-ranked Fleyer of Queens and 41st-ranked Elena Bompieri of Wingate. McCullough has won in straight sets in 11 of her 13 victories, and owns singles wins against both Western Carolina and ETSU. McCullough was a quarterfinalist in the ITA Cup in the fall of 2019 and claimed All-America honors in singles as well as her doubles accolades.

Against Belmont Abbey on March 9, McCullough became the first Tusculum women's tennis player to earn 100 career singles wins, and she currently ranks second in program history with 67 wins in dual matches. Combined with her 37-8 record in tournaments, McCullough has a career record in singles of 104-17 for the Pioneers.

Tusculum will take a 10-6 overall record and a 7-4 mark in the SAC into their final regular-season match at Lenoir-Rhyne on Sunday at 2 p.m.
