Pioneers drop 5-2 rain-delayed match to Carson-Newman

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Carson-Newman University took the lead before rain hit Thursday afternoon, and held the advantage during Friday's conclusion for a 5-2 victory over Tusculum University in South Atlantic Conference women's tennis action at the Nichols Tennis Complex.

The Eagles (11-6, 7-4 SAC) moved into fourth place via tiebreaker over the Pioneers (10-6, 7-4 SAC) heading into the final weekend of the regular season. Carson-Newman held a 3-1 lead when the match was stopped on Thursday due to rain, and completed the victory Friday morning.

In doubles play, the Pioneers dropped two of the three matches to the Eagles, with Emilie Hansen and Rory Church teaming for a 6-2 win over Hannah Price and Natasha Forrest at flight two.

Hansen also gained a win for the Pioneers in singles on Thursday, beating Violetta Khisamova 6-1, 6-2 at flight two. Paulina Loretz also earned a win for the Pioneers, beating Price in three sets on Friday by a 1-6, 6-2, 6-3 score.

Tusculum will visit Lenoir-Rhyne (10-3, 8-3 SAC) in their regular-season finale on Sunday at 2 p.m. The Bears are currently the number-three seed in the upcoming SAC Championship tournament, which will be played April 15-17 at the Palmetto Tennis Center in Sumter, South Carolina.
