Tusculum Women's tennis ends season nationally ranked

SKILLMAN, N.J. --- The Tusculum College women's tennis team has ended the season listed 47th in the final 2014-2015 NCAA Division II national rankings as selected by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.

This marks a second straight season the Pioneers have ended the year ranked and the seventh occasion in school history. TC also finished eighth in the ITA/NCAA II Southeast Region rankings.

Tusculum posted an 18-2 overall record, including 10-1 in South Atlantic Conference play to finish runner-up in the league standings. The Pioneers also advanced to the semifinal round of the SAC Tournament.

Armstrong State captured the NCAA II national championship and is listed first ahead of runner-up and defending champion Barry. BYU-Hawaii is third, followed by Lynn, West Florida, Saint Leo, Nova Southeastern, Columbus State, Hawaii Pacific and Southwest Baptist to comprise this year's top-10.

Academy of Art is 11th, followed by St. Mary's, Midwestern State, NYIT, California (Pa.), Georgia College, CSU Los Angeles, Northeastern State, Azusa Pacific, Sonoma State, Northwood, Shorter, Indianapolis, Wayne State (Mich.) and Queens (N.Y.) to wrap up the top half of the poll.

Concordia (N.Y.) came in at No. 26, followed by Valdosta State, Grand Valley State, Drury, UC San Diego, Goldey-Beacom, Point Loma, Flagler, Wingate, GRU Augusta, Rollins, Palm Beach Atlantic, St. Edward's, Indiana (Pa.), Queens University of Charlotte, Chestnut Hill, Dallas Baptist, Cameron, Florida Tech, Mercyhurst, Newman, Tusculum, West Virginia State, Anderson (S.C.) and Texas A&M-Kingsville.

In the ITA Southeast Region rankings, Armstrong State was listed first, followed by Columbus State, Georgia College, Flagler, Wingate, GRU Augusta, Queens (N.C.), Tusculum, Anderson (S.C.) and Newberry.

The Pioneers' 18 victories are the fourth most in program history as Tusculum posted a 3-2 record against teams in this year's final ITA national rankings, including wins over No. 39 Indiana (Pa.), No. 40 Queens (N.C.) and No. 49 Anderson (S.C.).

TC has recorded 15 consecutive winning seasons and has posted an impressive 73-9 overall record over the last four years.
