HILTON HEAD, S.C. --- The Tusculum College
women's tennis team earned an 8-1 victory over Quincy University on
Wednesday morning in Hilton Head, South Carolina.
TC, ranked 36th in the latest ITA DII national rankings,
improves to 9-0 on the season and sweeps all three matches of its
spring break swing on Hilton Head Island. The Pioneers also dealt
the Hawks their first loss of the season as their record falls to
8-1.
Tusculum was victorious in all six singles matches. Kealee
Heffner and Amy Kuhle's match at the top spot went to a third set
tiebreaker, but Heffner scratched out the win by a 6-2, 6-7, 11-9
score. Erin Mills defeated Sydney Lynch at number two (7-5,
6-3).
Kate Hutchinson was victorious over Elizabeth Kuenzi in the
third spot (6-3, 6-3), while Sarah Baker beat Michelle Gass 6-1,
6-0 in the fourth position. TC's Amanda Sumner and Emily Waters
both played in their first singles matches of the 2015 spring
season. Sumner defeated Anna Morrissey 6-1, 6-1 at number five,
while Waters was victorious over Morgan McGinnis in the sixth spot
(6-2, 6-2).
On the doubles side, Mills and Baker edged Kuenzi and Gabi
Papachrisanthou 9-8 in the second flight. Sumner and Waters bested
Morrissey and McGinnis by an 8-2 score in the sixth position.
The Pioneers will return to action at home tomorrow afternoon
against South Atlantic Conference foe Lenoir-Rhyne. First serve at
the Nichols Tennis Complex is set for 1 p.m.
