HILTON HEAD, S.C. --- The 36th-ranked
Tusculum College women's tennis team cruised to a 9-0 sweep of
Bloomsburg University on Tuesday morning in Hilton Head, South
Carolina.
The Pioneers (8-0) only dropped five total games as a team in
singles action, and just four in doubles play. Kealee Heffner
easily defeated Bloomsburg's (0-3) Aida Diop by a 6-0, 6-0 margin
in the top singles flight.
Franziska Funke, Sarah Baker and Adrienne Kaye also won their
singles matches by perfect 6-0, 6-0 scores. Funke was victorious
over Caitlin Flynn in the third spot, while Baker defeated
Cahterine Garrity in the fourth position. In the sixth flight, Kaye
knocked off Iliana Anapolski.
In other singles action, Erin Mills only dropped one game in a
6-1, 6-0 win over Irin Rietenauer. Kate Hutchinson defeated Lindsey
Tennis by a 6-3, 6-1 margin in the fourth flight.
On the doubles side, Heffner and Hutchinson were victorious
over Diop and Rietenauer (8-1) in the top position, while Amanda
Sumner and Funke were 8-1 winners against Flynn and Garrity at
number two.
Emily Waters and Kaye completed the doubles sweep with an 8-2
win over Tennis and Anapolski in the third spot.
Tusculum will conclude its three-match stretch down in Hilton
Head tomorrow at 8 a.m. against Quincy University.
