GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- The 36th ranked Tusculum College women's tennis team defeated the visiting Anderson University Trojans 7-2 in its first match of the 2015 spring season.

TC (6-0, 1-0 South Atlantic Conference) claimed victories in five singles positions and two doubles flights. The duo of Franziska Funke and Amanda Sumner were victorious over the Trojans' (6-3, 3-2 SAC) Mairead Cleary and Lindsay Gregory 8-6 in the second doubles position. Emily Waters and Adrienne Kaye earned a crucial point for TC in the third spot with an 8-1 victory over Abigail Gregory and Alexandra Ebner.

Kaelee Heffner was awarded the victory in the top singles flight after Anderson's Ivey Welborn was forced to withdraw from the match. Funke was victorious over Cleary in the third position (6-2, 6-1), while Kate Hutchinson claimed an 8-0 win over Ebner at number four.

Sarah Baker and Kaye earned wins in the fifth and sixth flights. Baker defeated Lindsay Gregory 8-6 and Kaye beat Abigail Gregory by a perfect 6-0, 6-0 score.

The Pioneers will travel to Hilton Head, South Carolina for three matches over spring break starting Monday against Indiana University of Pennsylvania at 8 a.m.
