Tusculum Women's tennis ranked 10th in NCAA Region poll

INDIANAPOLIS --- The Tusculum College women's tennis team is listed 10th in NCAA Division II Southeast Region rankings.

The Pioneers have already punched their ticket for the NCAA postseason by winning the Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Tournament last week with a dramatic 5-4 win over Newberry College, earning the league's automatic bid to the NCAA II Tournament. It was Tusculum's third SAC Tournament title (2004, 2008, 2014) and the Pioneers will be making their eighth NCAA Tournament appearance.

Armstrong Atlantic State University is the top-ranked team in the Southeast Region. Columbus State University is second, followed by Flagler College, Francis Marion University, Wingate University, Georgia College, Lander University, USC Aiken, Erskine College and Tusculum.

The Pioneers boast one of the top records in the nation at 22-2, establishing both school and conference records for most wins in a season. The 22 victories breaks the previous SAC mark of 21 wins set by Carson-Newman University in 1997, Gardner-Webb University in 2000, Presbyterian College in 2001 and Wingate in 2011.

Tusculum is currently on a five-match winning streak and has won 19 of its last 20 matches.

The 2014 Pioneers become the third TC women's tennis team to record over 20 wins in a single season, joining the 2004 and 2008 squads.

Tusculum will learn where it is going for the NCAA II Southeast Regional when the NCAA championship field is announced later this month.
