Anderson University won four singles matches from Tusculum
College following resumption of their Food Lion South Atlantic
Conference Women's Tennis Tournament semifinal match to earn a 5-2
victory Saturday morning at the Rock Hill Tennis Center.
The third-seeded Trojans (13-5) advanced to Saturday afternoon's
championship match against top-seeded Wingate, while the Pioneers
fell to 16-4 with the loss.
Tusculum took a 2-1 lead in doubles on Friday afternoon before rain
brought action to a halt. When play resumed Saturday morning,
Anderson claimed victories in all four completed singles matches to
claim the win.
Prior to the suspension, Tusculum led 2-1 as Kate Hutchinson and
Adrienne Kaye defeated Karen Ching and Avery Owens 8-1 at flight
one, and Emily Waters and Amanda Sumner downed Alexandra Ebner and
Marcela Gallegos 8-6 at flight three. The Trojans got a point back
at flight two as Lindsay Gregory and Camie Beaulieu-Brune needed a
tiebreaker to defeat Taylor Patterson and Erin Mills, 9-8.
On Saturday, Gregory tied the match with a 6-0, 6-2 win at flight
five over Kaye, then Owens pushed the Trojans on top 3-2 by
defeating Hutchinson 6-2, 7-5 at flight one.
Ching brought the Trojans within one point of victory by defeating
Patterson at flight two 7-5, 6-1, then Beaulieu-Brune clinched the
win by rallying for a 3-6, 6-2, 6-1 win over Mills at flight
three.
