For the second time this season, Tusculum College freshman Erin
Mills has been honored as the South Atlantic Conference Player of
the Week in Women's tennis, the league office announced Monday.
The Duluth, Ga. native went 2-0 in both singles and doubles as the
Pioneers defeated Carson-Newman and Newberry by identical 7-2
scores over the weekend, moving Tusculum into second place in the
league standings with two matches remaining.
In singles, Mills played flight three for the Pioneers and defeated
Carson-Newman's Haleigh Chastain 6-1, 6-1 and Newberry's Ariel
Strong 6-2, 6-4 to improve her season record to 12-4.
In doubles play, Mills teamed with Taylor Patterson at flight two
to extend their winning streak to 11 consecutive contests. They
defeated the Eagles' team of Chastain and Jennifer Ott by an 8-5
score and blanked the Wolves' duo of Strong and Tara Lamers 8-0.
The pairing of Mills and Patterson is 12-2 for the Pioneers this
season.
Tusculum (14-3, 6-1 SAC) wraps up league play this week with home
matches against Brevard on Tuesday at 3 p.m. and Lincoln Memorial
on Friday at 2 p.m.
