Continued strong doubles play helped boost Tusculum College to a
7-2 win over Carson-Newman in a South Atlantic Conference Women's
tennis match at the Nichols Tennis Complex Saturday afternoon.
The Pioneers (13-3, 5-1 SAC) won for the seventh time in eight
matches by winning two out of three doubles matches and taking five
out of six in singles against the Eagles (7-9, 1-5 SAC).
In doubles, Erin Mills and Taylor Patterson recorded their 10th
straight victory and improved to 11-2 with an 8-5 win over Haleigh
Chastain and Jennifer Ott at flight two. At flight three, Emily
Waters and Amanda Sumner posted their eighth straight win with a
9-7 win over Brooke Sanderson and Megan Wilson.
Leading 2-1 entering singles, the Pioneers extended their lead to
4-2 as Patterson defeated Patricia Guerreiro 6-2, 6-1 at flight two
and Mills beat Chastain 6-1, 6-1 at flight three. Tusculum finished
off the match with Waters winning 6-1, 6-2 over Ott at flight four
and Adrienne Kaye defeating Sanderson 6-1, 6-1, (10-4) at flight
five. Megan Buckmaster won by default at flight six over the
Eagles' Tiffany Delias.
Tusculum will face Newberry on Sunday at 1 p.m. in a conference
match from the Nichols Tennis Complex.
