Tusculum Women's tennis blanks Converse, 9-0

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Emily Waters accounted for a pair of points, including the match-clincher as the Tusculum College women's tennis team blanked visiting Converse College 9-0 Friday afternoon at the Nichols Tennis Complex.

The Pioneers (6-1) record their fourth straight victory, while the Valkyries (0-9) remain winless on the year.

Tusculum swept all three doubles points, including an 8-2 pro set win at the third flight by Waters and Amanda Sumner, as they defeated Klaire Rouse and Shae Lyles. The No. 1 doubles pair of Kate Hutchinson and Adrienne Kaye was also victorious with their 8-2 win over Olivia Self and Kasey Anderson.

Marissa Lewis garnered the fourth point of the afternoon with her 6-0, 6-0 win against Lyles at No. 6 singles. Waters followed with the deciding point in her 6-1, 6-1 win over Samantha Sheffield at the fourth flight.

TC also got singles victories from Taylor Patterson, Erin Mills, Megan Buckmaster and Hutchinson.

Including Friday's match, the Pioneers will be in action in five of the next six days. Tusculum will travel to Florence, S.C. on Saturday to face 11th-ranked Francis Marion University for a 2 p.m. contest against the Patriots.
