Tusculum earns 6-3 victory at Catawba

SALISBURY, N.C. --- Tusculum College claimed a 6-3 victory over Catawba College in South Atlantic Conference Women's tennis action Saturday afternoon at the Johnson Tennis Center.

The Pioneers (8-4, 2-1 SAC) took a 2-1 lead after doubles and won four of the six singles matches against the Indians (10-9, 2-3 SAC).

In doubles play, the Pioneers received an 8-4 win at flight one from Taylor Patterson and Courtney Conley over Kasia Zielinski and Nicole Boyle, while at flight three the team of Blake Thompson and Megan Buckmaster downed Candace Hall and Ally Prior, 9-7.

Catawba's doubles point came at flight two, where Jennifer Dameron and Maggie McKee edged Kristen Keefer and Katie Hillis 9-8.

In singles play, Patterson won 6-1, 6-1 at flight two over Boyle, Buckmaster defeated McKee 6-3, 6-0 at flight three, Thompson won 6-3, 6-1 at flight five over Dameron and Hillis claimed a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Hall at flight six.

The Indians earned victories from Zielinski, a 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 winner at flight one over Conley, and Prior who defeated Keefer 6-3, 6-1 at flight four.

The Pioneers host Carson-Newman Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Nichols Tennis COmplex.
