Heidi von der Lage BANNER ELK, N.C. --- Ashley Mayers recorded the deciding point at No. 3 singles to lead the Lees-McRae College women's tennis team to a 5-4 win over visiting Tusculum College Sunday afternoon at the Baker Tennis Courts.

The Lady Bobcats improve to 11-4 overall, while the Pioneers (14-4) have their six-match winning streak snapped.

LMC captured doubles points and the top two flights, while TC's No. 3 duo of Jessi Smith and Heidi von der Lage won 8-3 in pro sets over Jennifer Hawkins and Cameron Joyce.

LMC got singles wins by Gabriele Celi, Christine Vanard and Mayers at the top three flights. Celi outlasted TC's Jennifer Sparks 6-3, 4-6, 6-1 at No. 1 singles. Mayers won her match over Amanda Pike, 7-5, 7-5 at the third flight to seal the win.

Tusculum won the final three singles battles in straight set by von der Lage, Caroline Crowe and Blake Thompson.

Tusculum's Monday home match against Anderson University has been cancelled due to inclement weather and will not be rescheduled. The Pioneers will host Lincoln Memorial University this Friday at 12:30 p.m. at the Nichols Tennis Complex. Tusculum has already clinched a share of the South Atlantic Conference Championship and can clinch the outright title with a victory over LMU.
