INDIANAPOLIS --- The Tusculum College women's
tennis team is returning to the NCAA Division II Tournament and
will face seventh-ranked Rollins College, Friday, May 9 in the
opening round of Southeast Regional. The match will begin at 11:30
a.m. at the Buccaneer Tennis Center and hosted by Barry University
in Miami Shores, Fla.
Tusculum (20-3) is making its first NCAA postseason appearance
since 2005, but sixth in the last eight years. The Pioneers will be
the No. 6 seed, while Rollins (22-2) is seeded third.
TC punched its ticket for the NCAA postseason winning the Food
Lion South Atlantic Conference Tournament and earning the league's
automatic berth. Tusculum also tied a school record for most wins
in a season (20).
This will be the second overall meeting between Tusculum and
Rollins, but the first in the NCAA Tournament. The Tars defeated
the Pioneers Mar. 8, 2006 in Hilton Head, S.C.
The winner of the Rollins/Tusculum match will face either Barry or
Saint Leo on Saturday, May 10 at 11 a.m.
The second round winners will advance to the NCAA II National
Championship Festival in Houston, Texas (May 14-17).
