GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Tusculum College's
Amanda Pike accounted for a pair of points as the
second-seeded Pioneers posted a 5-0 victory over No. 7 Lenoir-Rhyne
College in a quarterfinal match of the 2008 Food Lion South
Atlantic Conference Women's Tennis Tournament, held Tuesday at the
Nichols Tennis Complex.
Tusculum (18-3), ranked No. 37 in NCAA Division II, advances
Friday's semifinal match against No. 6 seed Newberry College. That
contest will be held at the Rock Hill Tennis Center in Rock Hill,
S.C., beginning at 9 a.m. Lenoir-Rhyne ends its season with a 6-8
record.
Tusculum swept all three doubles points, including an 8-1 pro set
win by Pike and Jennifer Sparks at the second
flight against the L-R duo of Jennifer Binney and
Ashley Halvorson.
Pike defeated Binney at No. 3 singles, 6-1, 6-0, while Heidi von
der Lage won her No. 6 singles battle against Amanda
Hunsucker, 6-3, 6-0.
Friday will be a rematch of last year's SAC Tournament semifinal
between Tusculum and Newberry, which the Lady Indians prevailed
5-2. Tusculum defeated Newberry earlier this month in a 5-4
thriller.
